Thursday Training Rides

We currently run training rides on Thursday evenings all year round. (Please check our facebook page for weekly updates)

Meeting Point: Polkyth  Depart: 18:30

Starting Thursday 27th October 2018 until the last Thursday in March the ‘Skyride’ departs from Polkyth leisure centre on Carlyon road in St. Austell. The focus of this ride is maintaining fitness through the winter months and is very social. This year the committee have decided to keep last years route which keeps close to St. Austell and has good street lighting. Those taking part will stay together and regroup where necessary for the first lap. Then depending upon conditions, a second fast lap can be made with a stop afterwards at Subway cafe for refreshments.

For this ride you will need front and rear lights, a high visibility tabard/cycling gilet is also highly recommended.

Please note new start and route change to Stenalees roundabout due to road closure on Bodmin Rd. This will be reviewed once road works have ceased.
Meeting Point: Polkyth  Depart: Tortoise 18:00 / Hares 18:15 / Hounds 18:30

Between the first Thursday in April and the last in September the ‘Sufferfest‘ departs from the entrance to Polkyth Leisure Centre, Carlyon Rd, St. Austell with 2-3 groups starting out depending on ability and how you feel on the night? The first ‘Tortoise’ group starts at 18:00, the second ‘Hares’ at 18:15 and lastly the ‘Hounds’ depart at 18:30. The pace is moderate, leaving Polkyth for a warm up climb to Carclaze then onto Stennalees and downhill to Roche. Upon leaving Roche things get tougher with the emphasis on the riders going ‘through & off’ to maintain a high pace. This is where the hounds try to catch the hares! Once the riders hit the bottom of Probus hill it’s an all-out effort to reach St. Austell as fast as you can. This session is designed to be both social as well as a tough training ride and many times strong riders and club champions have been dropped before the finish! Once back in St. Austell the riders stop at Smorgers for refreshments and a chat.
