We currently run training rides on Thursday evenings all year round. (Please check our facebook page for weekly updates)
Meeting Point: Polkyth Depart: 18:30
Starting Thursday 5th October 2017 until the last Thursday in March the ‘Skyride’ departs from Polkyth leisure centre on Carlyon road in St. Austell. The focus of this ride is maintaining fitness through the winter months and is very social. This year the committee have decided to revisit the original Skyride route which stays closer to St. Austell and has better street lighting. Those taking part will stay together and regroup where necessary for the first lap. Then depending upon conditions, a second fast lap can be made with a stop afterwards at Subway cafe for refreshments.
For this ride you will need front and rear lights, a high visibility tabard/cycling gilet is also highly recommended.
Meeting Point: Pave Velo Depart: Tortoise 18:00 / Hares 18:15 / Hounds 18:30
Between the first Thursday in April and the last in September the ‘Sufferfest‘ departs from the entrance to Priory car park on Bodmin road, with 2-3 groups starting out depending on ability and how you feel on the night? The first group starts at around 18:10-18:15, the second at 18:20- this has become nicknamed the ‘hares’ group. Lastly the ‘hounds’ depart at 18:30. The pace is moderate leaving St. Austell up the Bodmin road but once we leave Roche things get tougher with the emphasis on the riders going ‘through & off’ to maintain a high pace. This is where the hounds try to catch the hares! Once the riders hit the bottom of Probus hill it’s an all-out effort to reach St.Austell as fast as you can. This session is designed to be both social as well as a tough training ride and many times strong riders & club champions have been dropped before the finish! Once back in St.Austell the riders stop at the Subway cafe for refreshments & a chat.
