Thoughts are already turning towards a fantastic summer season for everyone with some exciting riding to look forward to.
The club will not be organising any Open Time Trials this season but is planning on organising a couple of club time trials on the S6. Doug is looking into how this can be offered.
Local to us at Woody’s Bike Park on April 26th is Round 2 of the South-West Cross-Country Series which last year provided some hard racing.
6th – 7th June sees another national event coming to Cornwall with the HSBC UK National Cross-country Series Round 4 at Woody’s Bike Park which, whatever your riding discipline, will be a fabulous weekend.
And, if that wasn’t enough, one of our members has entered the Megavalanche downhill (again!) at Alpe d’Huez in July. More information at https://www.ucc-sportevent.com/megavalanche-alpe-dhuez/
Tour of Britain 2020
Top of the list is the Tour of Britain coming through St Austell on 6th September, 2020. The Club was invited to the launch of the stage where we heard about the route in general terms. Details have emerged since and the route through St Austell has been confirmed.
Club members are already planning commemorative events with a Hill Climb being the main focus. This is very exciting and looks like it will be run as a British Cycling Go-Ride event to attract as many people as possible including our young riders from the Youth Academy. The plan is to use the road from the Sawles Arms to Greensplat with talk of there being a road closure. It will be an exciting day so put the date, 5th September, 2020 in the diary now and start training!
More Youth Academy
Some dates for your diaries:
21st March, 2020. If you’d like to see some great cross-country racing by the young riders we’re hosting a race at Poltair School. All our young riders will take part and also an invite has been extended to Wadebridge Coasters. As a Go-Ride club we can offer this racing under British Cycling rules. If you’re able to support either by cheering our young riders or helping on the day just let us know.
25th and 26th March, 2020. The Club is supporting the Cotton Cup, a Primary School MTB competition held at Cotton Woods every year. It’s a great way to promote and involve the club in grass-roots cycling. Last year the Youth Academy Coaches coached the young riders in the morning and marshalled the racing in the afternoon and we’ll be doing the same again. Details are on our ‘Events’ page.
