Training

We currently run training rides on Thursday evenings all year round. (Please check our facebook page for weekly updates)

Skyride

When

Starting Thursday 27th October 2018 until the last Thursday in March.

Depart

18:30

Ride Focus

The focus of this ride is maintaining fitness through the winter months and is very social. Those taking part will stay together and regroup where necessary for the first lap. Then depending upon conditions, a second fast lap can be made with a stop afterwards at Subway cafe for refreshments.

Route

The route keeps close to St. Austell and has good street lighting.

For this ride you will need front and rear lights, a high visibility tabard/cycling gilet is also highly recommended.

Sufferfest

When

Between the first Thursday in April and the last Thursday in September

From

Polkyth Leisure Centre on Carlyon Road, St. Austell.

Depart times

Riders choose their group on the basis of their fitness and aims for the ride.

‘Tortoise’ group starts at 18:00 (less than 14 mph avg.)

‘Hares’ at 18:15 (14 to 17 mph avg.)

‘Hounds’ depart at 18:30. (17+ mph avg.)

Ride Focus

The aim is to finish first at the St Austell town sign just after the St Mewan dip!

This session is designed to be both social as well as a tough training ride and many times strong riders and club champions have been dropped before the finish!

Three phases to the ride

Phase 1

The pace is moderate, leaving Polkyth for a warm up climb to Carclaze then onto Stennalees and downhill to Roche.

Phase 2

Upon leaving Roche things get tougher with the emphasis on the riders going ‘through & off’ to maintain a high pace. This is where the hounds try to catch the hares!

Phase 3

Once the riders hit the bottom of Probus hill it’s an all-out effort to reach St. Austell as fast as you can.

Once back in St. Austell the riders stop at Smorgers for refreshments and a chat.
